National Eligibility Test -UGC NET 2014 Notification by University Grants Commission


DESCRIPTION

University Grants Commission (UGC) is inviting applications from eligible candidates for National Eligibility Test (NET) 2014.

CONDITIONS OF ELIGIBILITY :

  1. Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s Degree OR equivalent examination from universities/institutions recognised by UGC in Humanities (including languages) and Social Science, Computer Science & Applications, Electronic Science etc. are eligible for this Test. The Other Backward Classes (OBC) belonging to non-creamy layer / Scheduled Caste (SC) / Scheduled Tribe (ST) / Persons with disability (PWD) category candidates who have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s degree or equivalent examination are eligible for this Test.
  2. Candidates who have appeared OR will be appearing at the qualifying Master’s degree (final year) examination and whose result is still awaitedOR candidates whose qualifying examinations have been delayed may also apply for this Test. However, such candidates will be admitted provisionally and shall be considered eligible for award of JRF/Assistant Professor eligibility only after they have passed their Master’s degree examination or equivalent with at least 55% marks (50% marks in case of OBC (Non-creamy layer)/ SC/ ST/ PWD (Persons with disability) category candidates). Such candidates must complete their P.G. degree examination within two years from the date of NET result with required percentage of marks, failing which they shall be treated as disqualified.
  3. The Ph.D. degree holders whose Master’s level examination had been completed by 19th September, 1991 (irrespective of date of declaration of result) shall be eligible for a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks (i.e., from 55% to 50%) for appearing in NET.
  4. Candidates are advised to appear in the subject of their post-graduation only. The candidates whose post-graduation subject is not covered in the list of subjects in item No. 9, may appear in a related subject.
  5. Candidates belonging to OBC (Non-creamy layer)/SC/ST/PWD category are required to submit attested copy of the category Certificate along with online printout of their Application Forms (obtained while applying on-line). Other candidates are not required to submit any certificates/documents in support of their eligibility along with printout of their Application Form. Therefore, the candidates, in their own interest, must satisfy themselves about their eligibility for the Test. In the event of any ineligibility being detected by the Commission at any stage, their candidature will be cancelled and they shall be liable for legal action.
  6. Candidates having post-graduate diploma/certificate awarded by Indian University/ Institute or foreign degree/diploma/certificate awarded by the foreign University/Institute should in their own interest, ascertain the equivalence of their diploma/degree/certificate with Master’s degree of recognized Indian universities from Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi. EXEMPTION (ELIGIBILITY FOR ASSISTANT PROFESSOR)

  1. NET/SLET/SET shall remain the minimum eligibility condition for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professors in Universities/Colleges/Institutions. Provided however, that candidates, who are or have been awarded a Ph. D. Degree in accordance with the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009, shall be exempted from the requirement of the minimum eligibility condition of NET/SLET/SET for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professor or equivalent positions in Universities/ Colleges/ Institutions.
  2. The candidates who have passed the UGC/CSIR JRF examination prior to 1989 are also exempted from appearing in NET.
  3. For SET Candidates: The candidates who have cleared the State Eligibility Test (SET) accredited by UGC for eligibility for Assistant Professor held prior to 1st June 2002, are exempted from appearing in NET, being eligible to apply for Assistant Professor anywhere in India. For SET held from 1st June 2002 onwards, the qualified candidates are eligible to apply for the post of Assistant Professor only in the universities/ colleges situated in the state from where they have cleared their SET.

NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY TEST (NET) Joint CSIR-UGC Test For Junior Research Fellowship And Eligibility for Lectureship


Description :

CSIR will hold the Joint CSIR-UGC Test Tentatively on 22nd June, 2014 (Date likely to be changed) for determining the eligibility of the Indian National candidates for the award of Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) NET and for determining eligibility for appointment of Lecturers (NET) in certain subject areas falling under the faculty of Science & Technology. 
The award of Junior Research Fellowship (NET) to the successful eligible candidates will depend on their finding admission/placement in a university/ national laboratory/ institution of higher learning and research, as applicable.
A candidate may apply either for ‘JRF’ OR for ‘Lectureship (LS) only’ He/she may indicate his/her preference in the Online Application, as the case may be. CSIR may consider candidates for ‘JRF’, or ‘Lectureship only” depending on number of fellowships available & performance in the test subject to the condition that they fulfill the laid down eligibility criterion. If a candidate is found to be over-age for JRF (NET) he/she will automatically be considered for Lectureship (NET) only, except for Engineering Sciences. Engineering Sciences candidates will only be eligible for CSIR JRF ship and are advised to opt for JRF only in the application form.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION :

  1.  BS-4 years program/BE/BTech/BPharma/MBBS/Integrated BS-MS/MSc or equivalent degree with at least 55% marks for general and OBC (50% for SC/ST candidates, physically and Visually Handicapped candidates). 
  2.  Candidates enrolled for M.Sc or having completed 10+2+3 years of the above qualifying examination are also eligible to apply in the above subject under the Result Awaited (RA) category on the condition that they complete the qualifying degree with requisite percentage of marks within the validity period of two years to avail the fellowship from the effective date of award. 

AGE LIMIT& RELAXATION :

  • For JRF (NET):Maximum 28 years as on 01-01-2014 (upper age limit may be relaxed up to 5 years in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC, Physically handicapped/Visually handicapped and female applicants).  
  • For LS (NET): No upper age limit

  • In order to apply Online the candidates are required to download Bank challan Performa from the above website and then deposit the requisite examination fee in any of the Indian Bank branches throughout the country. 
  • Candidates after successfully submitting application online are required to take print out of the Application Form, paste his/her recent black & white photograph, put his/her signature at the required space, attach requisite certificates and send alongwith CSIR marked copy of fee deposited Bank Challan in an envelope super scribed with Subject Code, Centre Code & Medium Code to Sr. Controller of Examination, Human Resource Development Group, Examination Unit, CSIR Complex, Library Avenue, Pusa, New Delhi-110012 so as to reach on or before 08.03.2014 (14.03.2014 for remote areas).

  • Two separate merit lists, one comprising the candidates qualifying for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF - NET) and the second, of those candidates qualifying the Eligibility Test for Lectureship (NET), will be made on the basis of their performance in the above Test. Candidates qualifying for JRF (NET), except Engineering Sciences will also be eligible for Lectureship (NET) subject to fulfilling the eligibility criteria laid down by UGC. 
  • The candidates qualifying for Lectureship will be eligible for recruitment as Lecturers as well as for JRF-ship in a Scheme/Project, if otherwise suitable. 
  • However, they will not be eligible for Regular JRF-NET Fellowship. 
  • If a candidate is found to be overage for JRF (NET) he/she will automatically be considered for Lectureship-(NET) only. 
  • Candidates qualifying for the award of JRF (NET) will receive fellowship either from CSIR or UGC as per their assignment or from the Schemes with which they may find association. 
  • The candidates declared eligible for Junior Research Fellowship under UGC scheme and Lectureship will be governed by UGC rules/regulations in this regard.
  • The final result of this Single MCQ test may be declared sometime in the month of September, 2014 and fellowship to successful candidates will be effective from 1st October, 2014 with the validity period of 2 years for joining the fellowship under CSIR Scheme.

INDIAN INSTITUTE OF SPACE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (IIST) Thiruvananthapuram Ph.D. Programme – January 2014

Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology envisions the integration of Space Technology and Space Science educational programs with basic and applied research for meeting the national R&D requirements of science and technology in general and of the Indian Space Programme in particular. The institute provides a vibrant research atmosphere and offers doctoral and postdoctoral programmes.
Applications are invited from highly motivated candidates for admission to the Ph.D. Programme starting in January 2014, in the areas of Aerospace Engineering, Avionics Engineering, Earth and Space Sciences, Mathematics and Physics.

Eligibility :

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Applicants with Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology

  • Applicants with Master’s Degree in Engineering / Technology must have secured first class or equivalent in the Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees. They must have pursued their Master’s degree on the basis of qualified GATE score. Candidates with MS in Engineering or equivalent from leading foreign Universities with outstanding academic record (or) MS by Research with outstanding academic record can be considered without GATE. 
  • Candidates with Integrated Masters degree (or Dual Degree) in Engg/Tech from IITs and IISc with minimum CGPA 9.0/10 can be considered without GATE.

2. Applicants with Master’s Degree in Science

Applicants must have Master’s Degree in the relevant area with first class or equivalent in their Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees. They must have qualified UGC/CSIR NET -JRF (or) NET-Lectureship (or) GATE qualified in the relevant disciplines. 

3. Applicants with Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Technology

  • Outstanding candidates with Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with an excellent academic record and aptitude for research may be considered for direct admission to the Ph.D. Programme. Such candidates must have secured CGPA of 9.0/10 or better and a valid GATE score of 675 or better.
  • B. Tech students from IITs with CGPA better than 9.0/10 do not require GATE.

Age Limit :

  • Applicant should be below 28 years as on 16th December 2013. 
  • Age relaxation applicable as per Government Rules.

Nationality : 

Applicant should be an Indian citizen
  • Result awaited candidates in the final year/semester are also eligible to apply, if they have qualified for GATE/NET as required. Such candidates may be screened in for Test/Interview based on the marks obtained by them until the current year/semester.
  • Based on their Test/Interview performance, these candidates may be provisionally selected subject to the condition that they have to produce the provisional certificate of obtaining the qualifying degree with required percentage of marks by the date stipulated in their provisional admission letter. If they fail to produce the provisional/ degree certificate by this date their admission offer will be withdrawn and the offer may be given to next eligible candidate in the waiting list.
  • In exceptional cases, a provisionally selected candidate may be allowed to join IIST without submitting the provisional/degree certificate on the stipulated date of joining, subject to the conditions that (a) At the time of joining the candidate should have completed all the requirements for the award of the qualifying degree including all examinations, project works and viva voce (b) The candidate should produce at the time of joining a Course Completion Certificate issued by the competent authority in the University/Institute specifically confirming that all examinations, project works and viva voce for the qualifying degree are completed (c) If the above condition is satisfied, the candidate can be given provisional admission with the undertaking that all pending certificates, mark sheets, degree certificates (Original or Provisional) will be submitted to IIST latest by 30th April 2014, failing which the admission stands cancelled. For such candidates who are provisionally admitted to the IIST Ph.D. Programme as per (c) above, no fellowship is paid during the period before the required certificates are submitted. However, on regularization of admission following the submission of all required documents before the stipulated date, the candidate will be paid fellowship with retrospective effect from the date of joining. 

RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP :

  1. The Scholars selected for IIST Ph.D. programme with Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology will receive a Fellowship of Rs. 18000/- p.m., and scholars with Master’s degree in Science or Humanities with NET-JRF or GATE qualification will be given a Fellowship of Rs. 16000/ pm. Scholars with NET-Lectureship will be given a Fellowship of Rs. 12000/ pm, which will be enhanced to Rs. 16000/ pm if the scholars qualify for NET-JRF.
  2. After two years of research experience, their performance will be evaluated by a review committee constituted by Director IIST. Based on the review, the fellowship amount of Rs. 18000/16000/12000 may be enhanced to Rs. 20000/18000/14000 respectively.
  3. The scholars will be required to assist the Departments in tutorials / practicals or related academic activities normally limited to 6 hours per week.
  4. The scholars will have to pay for the services provided by the Institute like boarding / lodging / medical facilities etc., as per IIST rules. 

SELECTION PROCEDURE :

  1. Applications in the prescribed format will be received until 16th December 2013
  2. From the eligible applicants, a short-listing will be done taking into account their applicable GATE/NET scores.
  3. The final selection is based on a written test/ interview or interview alone depending on the number of candidates.
  4. List of short-listed candidates for written test or interview will be displayed in IIST website by 4th week of December 2013
  5. Written test of two hours duration as applicable and Interview will be conducted at IIST, Trivandrum during 2nd week of January 2014.
  6. The written test is aimed to evaluate the basic understanding and proficiency in the relevant area.
  7. Selected candidates will be intimated within a week after the final interview. Results will also be displayed in our website.
  8. Outstation candidates will be paid to and fro sleeper class train fare by shortest route, or actual fare (whichever is lower) for attending the interview.

Eligibility Criteria (for Ph.D.) :

The minimum qualification required for admission to Ph.D. programme in Engineering, Science, Management, and Humanities & Social Sciences is one of the following :
  1. M.E./M.Tech./M.Pharm in relevant discipline with at least 6.5 CGPA or 60 percent marks in aggregate in both B.Tech. (or M.Sc./B.Pharm/ MCA) and M.Tech. levels from a recognized technical Institute or University.
  2. B.E./B.Tech./B.Pharm/MCA or equivalent in relevant discipline with CGPA of 7.0 or 65 percent marks in aggregate.
  3. M.Sc. in Basic Sciences with CGPA 7.0 or 65 percent marks in aggregate in relevant disciplines.
  4. M.B.B.S./B.V.Sc. with CGPA 6.5 or 60 percent marks in aggregate.
Additionally candidates having the following qualification can also apply for Ph.D. in Management and Humanities & Social Sciences:  
  • M.A. / MBA / M.Com. /M. Sc. in Humanities, or Social Sciences or Management with 60 percent marks or 6.5 CGPA.

Eligibility Criteria (for MS Research) :

The minimum qualification required for admission to M.Tech (Research) programme in Engineering, Science, Management, and Humanities & Social Science is one of the following:
  • B.E./B.Tech./B.Pharm/MCA or equivalent in relevant discipline with 60 percent marks in aggregate (or 6.5 CGPA).
  • M.Sc. in Basic Sciences with 60 percent marks in aggregate (or 6.5 CGPA) in relevant disciplines.
  • M.B.B.S./B.V.Sc. with 60 percent marks in aggregate (or 6.5 CGPA).
Additionally candidates having the following qualification can also apply for M.Tech.(R). in Management and Humanities & Social Sciences :
  • M.A. / MBA / M.Com. /M. Sc. in Humanities, or Social Sciences or Management with 60 percent marks or 6.5 CGPA. 

Financial Support :

  • Fellowships/Assistantships are available to meritorious Ph.D. and M.Tech (Res) students of all departments.
  • Apart from the Institute fellowship, applications are also invited from eligible candidates for admission to Ph.D. and M.Tech (Research) Programmes under Centre of Excellence (CoE) on "Orthopedic Tissue Engineering and Rehabilitation" in BM department.
    The fellowship will be given from special Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme - Centre of Excellence (TEQIP-CoE) grant as long as the project is in operation. Ph .D.
    students will be automatically transferred to institute fellowship on completion of the project, provided they satisfy the Institute Fellowship norms . The total duration of the fellowship is limited to 4 or 5 years as stated in table above.
    The academic eligibility and selection procedure is same as that mentioned above.
  • Candidates with individual external fellowships (CSIR/UGC NET/DST/INSPIRE etc.) are invited to apply. The selection process will be same as that for other candidates.

However, candidates who will be called for interview will be required to submit signed copy of the application form, a set of Xerox copies of all certificates and original sponsorship certificate (for sponsored candidates only) at the time of interview. They also need to produce original certificates from HSC onwards for verification. The same will be forwarded to the Academic Office by the department for record.

Eligibility :

  • Admission to a Ph.D. Programme shall be open to candidates who have passed the prescribed qualifying examination with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 6.5 in the 0-10 scale grading system, or not less than 60% marks in the aggregate (taking into account the marks scored in all the subjects of all the public/ university examinations conducted during the entire prescribed period for the degree programme).
  • However, this prescribed minimum shall be a CGPA of 6.0 or 55% marks in the aggregate for SC/ST candidates.

National Brain Research Centre (NBRC) will select candidates through following channels for admissions to Ph.D. and Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. programmes for the year 2014.

Candidates will be short-listed for a two-tier interview based on their performance in the JGEEBILS examination or their score in the GATE/JEST/CSIR(JRF)(Chemistry) examination.

Ph.D. (NEUROSCIENCE)

  • Master's degree or equivalent in any branch of Science such as Life Sciences/Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer applications/Pharmacy/Veterinary Science/Psychology from a recognized Institute/University or A minimum of four-year bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering/Technology/Medicine from a recognized Institute/University. 
  • Candidates appearing for final year of the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply.

  • For I-Ph.D./M.Sc.: Bachelors in any Basic Science.
  • For M.Sc. Wildlife Biology & Conservation: Indian nationals who have a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline (with a minimum of 50% in core subjects), less than 35 years of age as on July 1, 2014 and a strong interest in wildlife research and conservation. Graduate nationals of South and Southeast Asian countries, with similar qualifications, are also eligible to apply.
  • For Ph.D. Program in TCIS: M.Sc. in Physics, Chemistry or Biology.
