Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar Ph. D. admission notification 2014 in Engineering / Sciences / Humanities


Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar invites application for admission to Ph.D. Programme from candidates in the following categories:
  1. Regular: full-time scholars with Institute Assistance.
  2. Sponsored Scholars: Candidates who possess the minimum prescribed qualifications and are in service in any of the following establishments shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. program as Sponsored Scholars:
    • Defence or other ministries of the Government of India or any other government organizations;
    • Established industrial research and development organizations
    • Autonomous bodies and public undertakings
    • Universities/Colleges

Programme Eligibility Criteria :

  1. PhD (Engineering) : 60% marks or 6.75 CGPA in M. Tech/M.E with consistently good academic record OR B.Tech/B.E with 70% or 7.5 CGPA with valid GATE Score (very good) and consistently good academic record in the relevant field.
  2. PhD (Science) : 1st class in M.Sc. / M. Tech with consistently good academic record (equivalent CGPA) and valid GATE/NET CSIR/UGC score in the relevant field.
  3. PhD (HSS) : 55% marks or equivalent CGPA in Master degree with UGC/NET score OR M. Phil degree in the relevant field.

  • After online submission, print a hard-copy of the completed application form (the online portal will allow you to print after successful electronic submission of your application). Attach all relevant enclosures and forward the application packet to:

Indus University Ahmedabad notification for Ph.D 2013-14 in Engineering / Science and Management

Indus University Ahmedabad has released notification for admission into Ph.D in full time and part time basis. The details are as follows :

Streams : 

Civil / Computer Science / Electrical / Electronics & Communication / Mechanical / Metallurgical / Management/ Mathematics / Physics / Chemistry

The categories :

  1. Full time Ph.D. Program
  2. Part time Ph.D. Program

Fees :

Application Fees :
Rs. 1,000/- through DD in favour of ‘Indus University’ payable at Ahmedabad.
Course Fees:
Rs. 30,000/- per semester (for both full time and part time)

Duration :

Minimum period of study and research shall not be less than 3 years from the date of provisional registration of the candidate for the full time candidates, and shall not be less than 4 years for part time candidates. However, in case of exceptional performance, the period can be reduced with the recommendations of the Apex Research Committee (ARC) and approval of the Executive President.

Admission Procedure :

  • Applicants fulfilling minimum eligibility criteria, shall be required to take Indus University Research Aptitude Test (IURAT) and appear for a personal interview (PI).
  • The research aptitude test shall comprise of two sections .One section is on general reasoning, and the other on respective streams. The test paper will have multiple-choice type questions.
  • Duration of the test will be ONE hour.
  • During the personal interview, the candidate shall have to make a presentation for about 10 minutes on the main theme of the proposed research, which will be followed by an interview by the panel. The DRC shall test the potential of the applicant for conducting research work.
  • Based on the academic / research / industrial record and the performance of the applicant in IURAT & PI, the ARC/ DRC shall recommend to the Dean (Research)/ Executive President (Vice Chancellor) the names of the suitable candidates.
  • Successful candidates will be informed of their selection through their email ID within two weeks from the date of RAT & PI.

Research Assistantship :

  • Research assistance, limited in number, shall be available to full time research scholars, based
  • on the recommendations of ARC / DRC.

Eligibility Criteria for Full time and Part time PhD :

Engineering Streams
  • M.E / M.Tech in the relevant branch of Engineering or Technology with 60 % marks or CGPA of 6.5 on a 10 point scale for general merit. For SC / ST / OBC candidates it is 55 % marks or CGPA of 6 on a 10 point scale.
  • B.E / B.Tech degree from reputed institutions in the relevant branch of Engineering or Technology with 60 % marks or CGPA of 6.5 on a 10 point scale for general merit for SC / ST / OBC candidates it is 55 % marks or CGPA of 6 on a 10 point scale with minimum 3 years experience in professional environments and / or publications in referred journal.
Science Stream
  • Masters Degree in Science / Computer Application with 60 % marks or CGPA of 6.5 on a 10 point scale for general merit. For SC / ST/ OBC candidates it is 55 % marks or CGPA of 6 on a 10 point scale.
Management Stream
  • MBA / PGDBA / PGDBM from AICTE approved list of institutions with 60 % marks or CGPA of 6.5 on a 10 point scale for general merit. For SC / ST / OBC candidates, it is 55% marks or CGPA of 6 on a 10 point scale.

Note :

  • Exceptionally bright candidates with notable professional achievements with 55 % marks in Masters program can also apply.

Eligibility :

  • Admission to a Ph.D. Programme shall be open to candidates who have passed the prescribed qualifying examination with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 6.5 in the 0-10 scale grading system, or not less than 60% marks in the aggregate (taking into account the marks scored in all the subjects of all the public/ university examinations conducted during the entire prescribed period for the degree programme).
  • However, this prescribed minimum shall be a CGPA of 6.0 or 55% marks in the aggregate for SC/ST candidates.
The prescribed qualifying examination is as follows :
  1. For Ph.D. in Engineering/Technology–Master’s degree in relevant field.

Ph.D. in Engineering

Candidates with a Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology with a good academic record or a Master’s degree by Research in Engineering/ Technology disciplines, with a good academic record.

Candidates with Master’s degree in Sciences with a good academic record and of exceptional merit are eligible for the relevant Engineering discipline and with a valid GATE score or UGC/CSIR NET/ NBHM or equivalent qualification in the relevant area tenable for the year of registration. In the case of candidates with more than 5 years of relevant experience after the Master’s degree, the requirement of a test score may be waived by the Selection Committee.

Eligibility :

PhD in Engineering : 
For admission to the PhD Programme in Engineering departments, a candidate must satisfy one of the following criteria :
  1. Master’s degree in Engineering / Technology / Medical Sciences / Veterinary Sciences / Pharmacy in a relevant area with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.5 or 60% of marks.
  2. Four-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology / Medical Sciences or equivalent in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks.
  3. Four-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology or equivalent in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0, from any of the Centrally Funded Technical Institutions [Details of the Institutions can be seen from http://mhrd.gov.in/funded_technical_inst_hindi]
  4. Candidate having a Two-year Master's degree (after completion of 4-year Bachelor's degree) or three-year Master's degree (after completion of 3-year Bachelor's degree) in Engineering/ Technology / Science in a relevant area with minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.5 or 60% of marks, or
    • A candidate with a Two-year M.Sc. degree (after completion of 3-year Bachelor's degree) in a relevant area with minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% marks is also considered for admission in the Department of Biotechnology.
  5. A candidate having a Four-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology / Science in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks is also considered for admission in the Department of Biotechnology.
  6. A candidate having M.Sc. degree with Mathematics as a subject at bachelor’s level is also considered for admission in the Department of Civil Engineering. The candidate should have a minimum of 7.5 CPI or 70% marks in Master’s level with consistent first class at other levels.
  7. A candidate having a Four-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology or equivalent in a relevant area, with a Postgraduate Degree in Management Science (Finance) or MBA with Finance specialization or equivalent, is also considered for admission in the area of specialization `Construction Management’, of the Department of Civil Engineering. The candidate should have a minimum of 6.5 CPI or 60% marks in Bachelor's level and 6.5 CPI or 60% marks in the postgraduate degree.
  8. A regular student of IIT Guwahati who is continuing his / her M.Tech. studies and having a minimum CPI of 8.0 at the end of second semester may be enrolled in the PhD programme of the Department in the beginning of his / her third semester of study. Such students can receive only PhD Degree.
  9. A student of IIT Guwahati who is continuing his / her B.Tech. studies and having a minimum CPI of 6.5 at the end of sixth semester may be enrolled in the PhD programme of the Department in the beginning of his / her seventh semester of study. Such students can receive dual B.Tech. and PhD Degree. Both the degrees will be awarded after completion of PhD degree.
PhD in Design :
For admission to the PhD Programme in Design, a candidate must satisfy one of the following criteria :
  1. Candidates having M.Arch. / MDes degree or M.Tech. / M.E. degree in a relevant area, with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks.
  2. Master’s degree in Applied Arts / Ergonomics / Fine Arts / Psychology / Physiology with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks.
  3. Four-year Bachelor’s degree in Design or Engineering / Technology or equivalent in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks.
  4. Four-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology / Design or equivalent in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0, from any of the Centrally Funded Technical Institutions [Details of the Institutions can be seen from http://mhrd.gov.in/funded_technical_inst_hindi]
  5. A two-year Post-graduate Diploma in Design (NID / CEPT or equivalent) with first class at Bachelor’s level.
  6. BFA (4-year professional programme, after 10+2) / GD Art (5-year programme after 10th standard) with one year professional experience, with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks.
  7. A regular student of IIT Guwahati who is continuing his / her MDes studies and having a minimum CPI of 8.0 at the end of second semester may be enrolled in the PhD programme of the Department in the beginning of his / her third semester of study. Such students can receive only PhD Degree.
  8. A student of IIT Guwahati who is continuing his / her BDes studies and having a minimum CPI of 6.5 at the end of sixth semester may be enrolled in the PhD programme of the Department in the beginning of his / her seventh semester of study.   3. Four-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology / Design / Science from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) / Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0.
  4. Four-year Bachelor’s degree in a related area in Engineering / Technology / Design / Science (from other than IITs / IISc) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks.
PhD in Humanities and Social Sciences :
For admission to the PhD Programme in the department of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS), a candidate must satisfy one of the following criteria:
  1. Master’s degree in Arts / Commerce / Science in a relevant area with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent.
  2. Master’s degree in Engineering / Technology / Design in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks.
  3. Four-year Bachelor’s degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0.

  2. Four-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology / Medical Sciences or equivalent in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks.
  3. Four-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology or equivalent in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0, from any of the Centrally Funded Technical Institutions [Details of the Institutions can be seen from http://mhrd.gov.in/funded_technical_inst_hindi]
  4. Master’s degree in Science in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks.
  5. Master’s degree in Social Sciences, in a relevant area, with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks, is also considered for admission to the Centre for the Environment.

Admissions to Ph.D. and Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. programmes @ National Brain Research Centre


National Brain Research Centre (NBRC) will select candidates through following channels for admissions to Ph.D. and Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. programmes for the year 2014.

  1. Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Science (JGEEBILS).
  2. Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE-2013/GATE-2014).
  3. Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST-2014).
  4. CSIR (JRF) (Chemistry) (2013-14 batch)

Candidates will be short-listed for a two-tier interview based on their performance in the JGEEBILS examination or their score in the GATE/JEST/CSIR(JRF)(Chemistry) examination.

Eligibility :


Ph.D. (NEUROSCIENCE)

  • Master's degree or equivalent in any branch of Science such as Life Sciences/Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer applications/Pharmacy/Veterinary Science/Psychology from a recognized Institute/University or A minimum of four-year bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering/Technology/Medicine from a recognized Institute/University. 
  • Candidates appearing for final year of the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply. 
  • Only the candidates with at least 55% (for SC/ST/PH candidates, 50%) marks or equivalent grade from secondary (10th) examination onwards will be considered. 
  • Candidates should calculate their percentage up to two decimal points without rounding off to determine their eligibility.

Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. (NEUROSCIENCE)

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in any branch of Science such as Life Sciences/Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer applications/Pharmacy/Veterinary Science/Psychology/Engineering/Technology/Medicine from a recognized Institute/University.
  • Candidates appearing for final year of the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply.Only the candidates with at least 55% (for SC/ST/PH candidates, 50%) marks or equivalent grade from secondary (10th) examination onwards will be considered. 
  • Candidates should calculate their percentage up to two decimal points without rounding off to determine their eligibility.
  • Reservation/Concessions for SC/ST/PH candidates will be followed as per Government of India rules.
  • Only Indian nationals are eligible for the above programmes.

Application procedure for the candidates appearing for JGEEBILS :

  • NBRC is Joining JGEEBILS (Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences) with CCMB, CDFD, NCBS, NCCS, DBS(TIFR), INSTEM, NII, IISER Kolkata, IISER Pune, IISER Thiruvananthapuram, IISER Mohali and IISER Bhopal for admission to its Ph.D. and Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. programmes.
  • Candidates for both Ph.D. and Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. courses have to appear for the same entrance test which will be conducted on Sunday, December 8, 2013.

  • NBRC will accept applications from GATE qualified candidates (with 85 percentile or more in GATE 2013/2014) in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Computer Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology and Instrumentation Engineering only for its Ph.D. and Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. programmes. 
  • These candidates should apply to NBRC with their GATE score. The application can be submitted online or by post.

  • Offline applicants may download the prescribed application form and send the completed application to Registrar, National Brain Research Centre, Manesar-122 051, Dist.Gurgaon (Haryana).
