The University shall admit students to the research program leading to Ph.D. degree under the following categories.

1. Full Time : Students under this category shall work full time for Ph.D. course work and thesis and may receive assistantship from the University or fellowship from external agencies like CSIR/UGC or any other recognized funding agency or may be self-financed.
2. Part Time : Candidates employed (full time) in academic institutions/universities (including VU)/R&D organizations recognized by a regulatory body or industries that have facilities for research (approved by VU) may be considered for admission into the Ph.D. program of the University, under the supervision of a guide from VU, through the normal admission procedure. They shall fulfill the stipulated requirements for Ph.D. admission.
3. Part-time (External) : Candidates employed in an organization/institution/industry that has facilities (approved by VU) to carry out research in the candidate‟s chosen field, can register as an external candidate. (S)He should take permission to work externally in his/her parent organization. (S)He should have a supervisor authorized by the university either from his/her organization or from another organization.(S)He should also have another co-supervisor from the University.

Eligibility :

1. For engineering disciplines, candidates must have obtained Post Graduate Degree or equivalent in the relevant engineering field. For management studies, the candidate must have Post Graduate Degree in the relevant field or any Masters degree with relevant experience.
2. For biotechnology, sciences and humanities, candidates must have a relevant Post Graduate degree or equivalent degree.
3. Candidates must have obtained minimum marks of 60% aggregate in the qualifying degree.

Test, Interview and Admission :

• Eligible candidates have to appear for a written Test and Interview. Chairperson, URC can waive the Test at his/her discretion.
• All candidates are required to qualify in a written test conducted by the University. Candidates who have qualified in the GATE/UGC/CSIR/NET examination, or awarded with Research Fellowship by UGC/CSIR/Government Organizations are exempted from written test for Ph.D. admission but however they should appear for the interview.
• Based on the performance of the candidate (S)He is provisionally selected for admission into the Ph.D. program, subjected to satisfactory allotment of supervisor and further approval by Chairman, URC.
• Candidate whose selection is approved by the Chairperson, URC, will be admitted to Ph.D. program after payment of prescribed fees and completion of all the admission procedures.

INDIAN INSTITUTE OF SPACE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (IIST) Thiruvananthapuram Ph.D. Programme – January 2014

Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology envisions the integration of Space Technology and Space Science educational programs with basic and applied research for meeting the national R&D requirements of science and technology in general and of the Indian Space Programme in particular. The institute provides a vibrant research atmosphere and offers doctoral and postdoctoral programmes.

Eligibility :

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Applicants with Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology

• Applicants with Master’s Degree in Engineering / Technology must have secured first class or equivalent in the Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees. They must have pursued their Master’s degree on the basis of qualified GATE score. Candidates with MS in Engineering or equivalent from leading foreign Universities with outstanding academic record (or) MS by Research with outstanding academic record can be considered without GATE. 
• Candidates with Integrated Masters degree (or Dual Degree) in Engg/Tech from IITs and IISc with minimum CGPA 9.0/10 can be considered without GATE.

2. Applicants with Master’s Degree in Science

Applicants must have Master’s Degree in the relevant area with first class or equivalent in their Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees. They must have qualified UGC/CSIR NET -JRF (or) NET-Lectureship (or) GATE qualified in the relevant disciplines. 

3. Applicants with Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Technology

• Outstanding candidates with Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with an excellent academic record and aptitude for research may be considered for direct admission to the Ph.D. Programme. Such candidates must have secured CGPA of 9.0/10 or better and a valid GATE score of 675 or better.
• B. Tech students from IITs with CGPA better than 9.0/10 do not require GATE.

Age Limit :

• Applicant should be below 28 years as on 16th December 2013. 
• Age relaxation applicable as per Government Rules.

Nationality : 

Applicant should be an Indian citizen

• Result awaited candidates in the final year/semester are also eligible to apply, if they have qualified for GATE/NET as required. Such candidates may be screened in for Test/Interview based on the marks obtained by them until the current year/semester.
• Based on their Test/Interview performance, these candidates may be provisionally selected subject to the condition that they have to produce the provisional certificate of obtaining the qualifying degree with required percentage of marks by the date stipulated in their provisional admission letter. If they fail to produce the provisional/ degree certificate by this date their admission offer will be withdrawn and the offer may be given to next eligible candidate in the waiting list.
• In exceptional cases, a provisionally selected candidate may be allowed to join IIST without submitting the provisional/degree certificate on the stipulated date of joining, subject to the conditions that (a) At the time of joining the candidate should have completed all the requirements for the award of the qualifying degree including all examinations, project works and viva voce (b) The candidate should produce at the time of joining a Course Completion Certificate issued by the competent authority in the University/Institute specifically confirming that all examinations, project works and viva voce for the qualifying degree are completed (c) If the above condition is satisfied, the candidate can be given provisional admission with the undertaking that all pending certificates, mark sheets, degree certificates (Original or Provisional) will be submitted to IIST latest by 30th April 2014, failing which the admission stands cancelled. For such candidates who are provisionally admitted to the IIST Ph.D. Programme as per (c) above, no fellowship is paid during the period before the required certificates are submitted. However, on regularization of admission following the submission of all required documents before the stipulated date, the candidate will be paid fellowship with retrospective effect from the date of joining. 

RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP :

1. The Scholars selected for IIST Ph.D. programme with Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology will receive a Fellowship of Rs. 18000/- p.m., and scholars with Master’s degree in Science or Humanities with NET-JRF or GATE qualification will be given a Fellowship of Rs. 16000/ pm. Scholars with NET-Lectureship will be given a Fellowship of Rs. 12000/ pm, which will be enhanced to Rs. 16000/ pm if the scholars qualify for NET-JRF.
2. After two years of research experience, their performance will be evaluated by a review committee constituted by Director IIST. Based on the review, the fellowship amount of Rs. 18000/16000/12000 may be enhanced to Rs. 20000/18000/14000 respectively.
3. The scholars will be required to assist the Departments in tutorials / practicals or related academic activities normally limited to 6 hours per week.
4. The scholars will have to pay for the services provided by the Institute like boarding / lodging / medical facilities etc., as per IIST rules. 

SELECTION PROCEDURE :

1. Applications in the prescribed format will be received until 16th December 2013
2. From the eligible applicants, a short-listing will be done taking into account their applicable GATE/NET scores.
3. The final selection is based on a written test/ interview or interview alone depending on the number of candidates.
4. List of short-listed candidates for written test or interview will be displayed in IIST website by 4th week of December 2013
5. Written test of two hours duration as applicable and Interview will be conducted at IIST, Trivandrum during 2nd week of January 2014.
6. The written test is aimed to evaluate the basic understanding and proficiency in the relevant area.
7. Selected candidates will be intimated within a week after the final interview. Results will also be displayed in our website.
8. Outstation candidates will be paid to and fro sleeper class train fare by shortest route, or actual fare (whichever is lower) for attending the interview.

University of Calcutta notification for Ph.D. in APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY

Eligibility :

For Engineering, Technology and Architecture departments :

• Candidates possessing M.Tech. / M.E. / M.Sc. (Engg) / M.Arch. or equivalent degree in relevant branch from a recognized university/institute with minimum 60% marks (or a CGPA of 6.5 in 10 point scale) in the qualifying examination shall be considered for admission in the departments as per their specialization only.
• Candidates possessing B.Tech. /B.E. / B.Sc. (Engg) /B.Arch. or equivalent degree in relevant branch from a recognized university/institute with minimum 75% marks (or a CGPA of 8.25 in 10 point scale) in all (from 10th onward) examinations including qualifying examination may be considered in exceptional cases after approval of DRC. Such candidates must have professional/research experience of at least ten years in reputed institutions/organizations.

INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY GUWAHATI Admission notification to PhD Programme

Eligibility :

PhD in Engineering : 

For admission to the PhD Programme in Engineering departments, a candidate must satisfy one of the following criteria :

1. Master’s degree in Engineering / Technology / Medical Sciences / Veterinary Sciences / Pharmacy in a relevant area with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.5 or 60% of marks.
2. Four-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology / Medical Sciences or equivalent in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks.
3. Four-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology or equivalent in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0, from any of the Centrally Funded Technical Institutions [Details of the Institutions can be seen from http://mhrd.gov.in/funded_technical_inst_hindi]
4. Candidate having a Two-year Master's degree (after completion of 4-year Bachelor's degree) or three-year Master's degree (after completion of 3-year Bachelor's degree) in Engineering/ Technology / Science in a relevant area with minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.5 or 60% of marks, or
• A candidate with a Two-year M.Sc. degree (after completion of 3-year Bachelor's degree) in a relevant area with minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% marks is also considered for admission in the Department of Biotechnology.
5. A candidate having a Four-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology / Science in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks is also considered for admission in the Department of Biotechnology.
6. A candidate having M.Sc. degree with Mathematics as a subject at bachelor’s level is also considered for admission in the Department of Civil Engineering. The candidate should have a minimum of 7.5 CPI or 70% marks in Master’s level with consistent first class at other levels.
7. A candidate having a Four-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology or equivalent in a relevant area, with a Postgraduate Degree in Management Science (Finance) or MBA with Finance specialization or equivalent, is also considered for admission in the area of specialization `Construction Management’, of the Department of Civil Engineering. The candidate should have a minimum of 6.5 CPI or 60% marks in Bachelor's level and 6.5 CPI or 60% marks in the postgraduate degree.
8. A regular student of IIT Guwahati who is continuing his / her M.Tech. studies and having a minimum CPI of 8.0 at the end of second semester may be enrolled in the PhD programme of the Department in the beginning of his / her third semester of study. Such students can receive only PhD Degree.
9. A student of IIT Guwahati who is continuing his / her B.Tech. studies and having a minimum CPI of 6.5 at the end of sixth semester may be enrolled in the PhD programme of the Department in the beginning of his / her seventh semester of study. Such students can receive dual B.Tech. and PhD Degree. Both the degrees will be awarded after completion of PhD degree.

PhD in Design :

For admission to the PhD Programme in Design, a candidate must satisfy one of the following criteria :

1. Candidates having M.Arch. / MDes degree or M.Tech. / M.E. degree in a relevant area, with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks.
2. Master’s degree in Applied Arts / Ergonomics / Fine Arts / Psychology / Physiology with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks.
3. Four-year Bachelor’s degree in Design or Engineering / Technology or equivalent in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks.
4. Four-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology / Design or equivalent in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0, from any of the Centrally Funded Technical Institutions [Details of the Institutions can be seen from http://mhrd.gov.in/funded_technical_inst_hindi]
5. A two-year Post-graduate Diploma in Design (NID / CEPT or equivalent) with first class at Bachelor’s level.
6. BFA (4-year professional programme, after 10+2) / GD Art (5-year programme after 10th standard) with one year professional experience, with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks.
7. A regular student of IIT Guwahati who is continuing his / her MDes studies and having a minimum CPI of 8.0 at the end of second semester may be enrolled in the PhD programme of the Department in the beginning of his / her third semester of study. Such students can receive only PhD Degree.
8. A student of IIT Guwahati who is continuing his / her BDes studies and having a minimum CPI of 6.5 at the end of sixth semester may be enrolled in the PhD programme of the Department in the beginning of his / her seventh semester of study. PhD in Science :

4. Four-year Bachelor’s degree in a related area in Engineering / Technology / Design / Science (from other than IITs / IISc) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks.

PhD in Humanities and Social Sciences :

For admission to the PhD Programme in the department of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS), a candidate must satisfy one of the following criteria:

1. Master’s degree in Arts / Commerce / Science in a relevant area with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent.
2. Master’s degree in Engineering / Technology / Design in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks.
3. Four-year Bachelor’s degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0.
4. Four-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology / Design or equivalent (from other than IITs) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% marks.

PhD in Centres :

1. Master’s Degree in Engineering / Technology / Design / Architecture / Medical Sciences in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks.
2. Four-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology / Medical Sciences or equivalent in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks.
