Ph.D. admission with teaching assistantship under TEQIP II @ VNIT Nagpur

Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur is inviting applications for full time Ph.D. in the following branches :

Engineering :

  9. Applied Mechanics
  • Teaching assistantship will be available for Candidate having M.E. / M. Tech. degree may have qualified GATE or equivalent national level exam in past.
  • Number of seats per department may change depending on the availability & suitability of the candidates
  • Candidates having M. Tech./ M.E. with qualified GATE score or equivalent national level exam shall receive teaching assistantship @ Rs.18,000/- per month for 1st / 2nd year and Rs.20,000/- for 3rd year / 4th year subject to satisfactory progress.
  • Teaching assistantship shall be offered subject to availability of funds under TEQIP II and for a maximum period of four years only. 

ADMISSION PROCEDURE :

  • The application form is available on Institute website www.vnit.ac.in
  • The form, duly filled in by the candidate, along with xerox copies of the certificates and photograph duly attested and crossed DD/ Bankers Check of amount Rs. 500/- (non - refundable) towards processing fee drawn in favour of The Director, VNIT, Nagpur, payable at Nagpur, should be send it to Dy. Registrar (Academic), VNIT, South Ambazari Road, Nagpur - 440 010 and must reach on or before the last date of submission of application form (clearly mention admission category and department on the envelop in bold letters ).
  • Incomplete applications and applications received after the last date are liable to be rejected.

Engineering and Technology :


For Institute Research Scholar (IRS)
Bachelor’s / Master’s Degree in Engineering or Technology in the relevant discipline with a minimum 6.5 CGPA or 60% marks in both Bachelor’s and Master’s levels from recognized Technical Institute or University. [Minimum 6.0 CGPA or 55% marksfor SC/ST candidates]
Only those Candidates will be considered for Ph.D. programme.
  • Whose admission to M. Tech /M.S/ME programmes was through GATE score
OR
  • Who holds a valid GATE score (i.e. those qualified in GATE 2012 or 2013)
OR
  • B. Tech. with a valid GATE Score Card(i.e. those qualified in GATE2012 or 2013).

Humanities & Applied Sciences(Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics):

Bachelor’s andMaster’s degree in Sciences or Humanities / M. Tech in the relevant area with a minimum6.5 CGPA or 60% marks in both Bachelor’s and Master’s levels from recognized Institute or University.[Minimum 6.0 CGPA or 55% marksfor SC/STcandidates].
Only those Candidates will be considered for Ph.D. programme.
  • Having valid GATE score card or CSIR/NBHM/UGC-NET fellowship.

Computer Applications :

MCA with valid GATE Score orM. Tech in Engineering with a minimum 6.5 CGPA or 60% marks in Master’s levels from recognized Institute or University. [Minimum 6.0 CGPA or 55% marks for SC/ST candidates].
Only those Candidates will be considered for Ph.D. programme.
  • Whose admission to M. Tech / M.S / ME programmes is through GATE Score
OR
  • Who holds a valid GATE score (i.e. those qualified in GATE 2012 or 2013) 
Relaxation to SC/ST/OBC/PH candidates will be given as per GOI norms. 
For Sponsored Research Scholar (SRS) from Industry / recognized R& D Labs. applicable to all the above  disciplines
  • Whose admission to M. Tech /M.S/ME programmes was through GATE score alongwith 5 years of industrial / research experience.
Sponsored Research Scholar (SRS) category is without any stipend and is applicable to candidates presently employed in reputed industry/ research organisations and with minimum experience of FIVE years They are required to produce a NOC/Sponsorship Certificate from present employer, along with relevant experience certificates on employer’s letter head (containing details like website address, phone and fax number, postal address etc.) from present and previous employers.

Mathematics:

  • For Ph.D. (Mumbai): M.Sc./B.E./B.Tech./M.Tech./M.A./ B.A./B.Sc.
  • For Ph.D. (Bengaluru): M.A./M.Sc./M.Tech.
  • For I-Ph.D. (Bengaluru): B.A./B.Sc./B.E./B.Tech. degree holders.
  • Students who wish to apply for the Ph.D. programme at CAM, Bengaluru will have to select Ph.D. Mumbai in the application form. Further, in the application, they can indicate their preference for being considered for the Ph.D. programme at CAM, Bengaluru.
  • Students applying for Ph.D. Mumbai and who are eligible for I-Ph.D. programme at Bangalore can indicate their preference in the application form for being considered for the I-Ph.D. program at CAM, Bengaluru.
  • Similarly students applying for I-Ph.D. Bangalore and who wish to be considered for Ph.D. Mumbai can indicate their preference in the application form.

Physics:

  • For Ph.D.: M.Sc.(Physics)/B.Tech. (Engineering Physics)
  • For I-Ph.D.: B.Sc./B.E./M.E./M.Tech./B.Chem. or equivalent degreee in Science / Engingeering / Medicine, M.Sc. (not in Physics)/B.Tech. (not in Engineering Physics).
In addition,
  • I-Ph.D. candidates with four or more years of university education who clear the written test may be considered by TCIS for their Ph.D. program.
  • I-Ph.D. candidates with an engineering degree who clear the written test may be considered by NCRA for their Ph.D. program.

Chemistry:

  • For Ph.D.: M.Sc./B.E./B.Tech./M.Tech./B.Pharm./M.Pharm. B.Sc. candidates with advanced knowledge of the discipline are also eligible to apply.
  • For Ph.D. Program in TCIS: M.Sc. in Physics, Chemistry or Biology.

Biology:

  • For Ph.D.: Masters in Basic Science or Bachelors in Applied Science. These include, M.Sc.(Ag.), B.Tech., B.E., B.V.Sc., B.Pharma. (4 years course), MBBS, BDS, M.Pharma. Candidates will be short-listed for interview based on written test marks, CV and Scientific Writeup.
  • For I-Ph.D./M.Sc.: Bachelors in any Basic Science.
  • For M.Sc. Wildlife Biology & Conservation: Indian nationals who have a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline (with a minimum of 50% in core subjects), less than 35 years of age as on July 1, 2014 and a strong interest in wildlife research and conservation. Graduate nationals of South and Southeast Asian countries, with similar qualifications, are also eligible to apply.
  • For Ph.D. Program in TCIS: M.Sc. in Physics, Chemistry or Biology.

Computer & System Sciences (including Communications and Applied Probability):

  • For Ph.D. : B.E./B.Tech./M.E./M.Tech./M.C.A./M.Sc. degree holders in Computer Science / Information Technology / Electronics & Communications Engineering / Electrical Engineering. Exceptionally well qualified students with B.E./B.Tech./ M.E./M.Tech./M.Sc. or equivalent degrees in other disciplines may also be considered.

Candidates not holding a Master's degree and admitted to a Ph.D./Int. Ph.D. program can receive an M.Sc. degree in some subjects by fulfilling prescribed requirements (see http://www.tifr.res.in/~gsoffice for details).
