Admissions to Ph.D. and Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. programmes @ National Brain Research Centre


National Brain Research Centre (NBRC) will select candidates through following channels for admissions to Ph.D. and Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. programmes for the year 2014.

  1. Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Science (JGEEBILS).
  2. Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE-2013/GATE-2014).
  3. Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST-2014).
  4. CSIR (JRF) (Chemistry) (2013-14 batch)

Candidates will be short-listed for a two-tier interview based on their performance in the JGEEBILS examination or their score in the GATE/JEST/CSIR(JRF)(Chemistry) examination.

Eligibility :


Ph.D. (NEUROSCIENCE)

  • Master's degree or equivalent in any branch of Science such as Life Sciences/Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer applications/Pharmacy/Veterinary Science/Psychology from a recognized Institute/University or A minimum of four-year bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering/Technology/Medicine from a recognized Institute/University. 
  • Candidates appearing for final year of the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply. 
  • Only the candidates with at least 55% (for SC/ST/PH candidates, 50%) marks or equivalent grade from secondary (10th) examination onwards will be considered. 
  • Candidates should calculate their percentage up to two decimal points without rounding off to determine their eligibility.

Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. (NEUROSCIENCE)

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in any branch of Science such as Life Sciences/Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer applications/Pharmacy/Veterinary Science/Psychology/Engineering/Technology/Medicine from a recognized Institute/University.
  • Candidates appearing for final year of the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply.Only the candidates with at least 55% (for SC/ST/PH candidates, 50%) marks or equivalent grade from secondary (10th) examination onwards will be considered. 
  • Candidates should calculate their percentage up to two decimal points without rounding off to determine their eligibility.
  • Reservation/Concessions for SC/ST/PH candidates will be followed as per Government of India rules.
  • Only Indian nationals are eligible for the above programmes.

Application procedure for the candidates appearing for JGEEBILS :

  • NBRC is Joining JGEEBILS (Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences) with CCMB, CDFD, NCBS, NCCS, DBS(TIFR), INSTEM, NII, IISER Kolkata, IISER Pune, IISER Thiruvananthapuram, IISER Mohali and IISER Bhopal for admission to its Ph.D. and Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. programmes.
  • Candidates for both Ph.D. and Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. courses have to appear for the same entrance test which will be conducted on Sunday, December 8, 2013.

IMPORTANT DATES for JGEEBILS Applicants :


  • Application opens at NBRC (www.nbrc.ac.in): 15th September 2013
  • Last date to fill (Online/Offline) application form at NBRC: 16th December 2013
  • Last date for receipt of both online & offline applications along with Demand Draft, at NBRC: 26th December, 2013
  • Candidates short-listed for the interview will be informed latest by May 2014. 
  • The interviews are likely to be held in the month of May/June 2014.
  • The interview dates will also be published on the NBRC web site.
  • Test Date for Candidates Appearing for JGEEBILS: Sunday 8th December 2013

Application procedure for candidates with GATE Score (GATE-2013 / GATE- 2014) :


  • NBRC will accept applications from GATE qualified candidates (with 85 percentile or more in GATE 2013/2014) in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Computer Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology and Instrumentation Engineering only for its Ph.D. and Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. programmes. 
  • These candidates should apply to NBRC with their GATE score. The application can be submitted online or by post.
  • Online applications can be submitted at the website: www.nbrc.ac.in
  • Offline applicants may download the prescribed application form and send the completed application to Registrar, National Brain Research Centre, Manesar-122 051, Dist.Gurgaon (Haryana).
  • If you have trouble downloading the application form, you may send a request to Registrar, National Brain Research Centre, Manesar-122 051, Dist. Gurgaon (Haryana) for obtaining a blank application form by post.

IMPORTANT DATES for GATE Applicants :


  • Online/Offline Application opens for NBRC: 28th February 2014.
  • Last date to Online/Offline application to NBRC: 15th April 2014
  • Last date for receipt of both online & offline applications along with Demand Draft, at NBRC: 25th April 2014.
